2013 SCHOLARSHIP LUNCHEON

The Cape Cod Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America at its May 11, 2013, annual scholarship event made six awards of $1,500 and $1,000, total value $7,000, to the following:

Katherine (Katy) A. Smith, Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, Simmons College, Boston;

(Matthew) Hunter Maher, Nauset Regional High School, Bentley University, Waltham, Massachusetts;

Kayla Elizabeth Howe, Monomoy Regional School District – Chatham High School, University of Massachusetts, Amherst;

Meghan Elizabeth Richer, Monomoy Regional School District – Harwich High School, Fairfield University, Fairfield, Connecticut;

Thomas Weston Moakley, Falmouth High School, Georgetown University, Washington, DC.

Unable to attend was scholarship recipient Ashley Raye Barattini, Barnstable High School, Stonehill College, Easton, Massachusetts, who received her grant at the June CCC MOAA event.

Mr. Bill Zammer, owner of the Flying Bridge Restaurant in Falmouth where the event was held, served as guest speaker and award presenter. Edward J. Lambert, Captain, USN – Retired represented the scholarship committee.

2011 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS:

Nicholas Albert Haglof – Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School. Nicholas ranks 2nd in his class of 155. He is Secretary of the National Honor Society and is a full time dual enrollment student at Cape Cod Community College. He has been a member of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps for the past six years.

Daniel Gallagher Merritt - Barnstable High School. Daniel ranks 10th in his class of 333 students. He is President of the Key Club, Treasurer of the Spanish National Honor Society, and Massachusetts All State Tenor. He is also an Advanced Placement Scholar.

Samuel Ray Schrader – Bourne High School. Samuel ranks 23rd in his class of 152 students. A true student athlete, he is a four year member of the football team and a member of the National Honor Society. He is a recipient of the Williams College Book Award.

Jamie Park Neelon – Barnstable High School. Jamie ranks 2nd in his class of 333 students. He is a member of the National Honor Society where he serves as President. He has been a member of the Student Council for all four years currently serving as Treasurer.

Jay Andrew Souweine – Falmouth High School. Jay ranks 31st in his class of 297 students He is a four year member of both the Marching Band and the Honors Jazz Ensemble. He is also a member of the National Honor Society. He has played taps at more than 350 veterans’ funerals at Massachusetts National Cemetery.

Kaitlyn Alyssa Stuck – Bourne High School. Kaitlyn ranks 17th in her class of 152 students. Another true student athlete she is a four year member of the volleyball team and a four year Honor Roll student. She also is a member of the National Honor Society where she serves as Treasurer.
